BTS is searching for a senior software engineer to enhance the breadth of our engineering team and increase output as we continue our growth. Our system consists of a Perl back end and and PHP front end, each talking to a terabyte-sized Oracle database. Our main product helps our clients make million dollar decisions through reports on freeway performance. The programmer we seek must be interested in solving different from the usual Web 2.0 crowd--we have a few thousand users leveraging our massive data warehouse to generate complex reports, including painting performance measures directly on Google maps.

Responsibilities include the following.

• Understanding and synthesizing traffic engineering concepts
• Writing concise design specifications for translating algorithms into Perl/PHP code
• Implementing new features based on design specifications
• Designing and running unit tests
• Troubleshooting and bugfixing

Qualified candidates will have the following abilities.

• 7 years experience coding in Perl or PHP
• 5 years experience writing queries for a relational database
• Experience with source code control
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write specifications
• Experience with data warehousing a plus
