HOSTING

BTS also provides a hosting service. This allows transportation systems to send their data to us and receive results in real-time. We'll host the data for you and present the results over the web. The benefits of this service are immense.

Small Startup Costs - Compared to full deployments of traffic measurement systems, this is extremely cost effective. In times of tight budgets this makes sense.

Quick Deployment - Since the machines to run the service don't have
to be installed at your location, the deployment time for this service
is quick small.

Less Recurrent Cost - By leveraging the expertise and infrastructure that BTS has in place, the hosting costs are minimal. This allows for easy reductions in IT personnel.

Access to Innovation - BTS uses the most sophisticated data processing algorithms available. By having BTS host and process your data, you'll be guaranteed that the results will be acceptable.

Instant Results - We transport your data to us instantly and process it in real-time. As a result, there are no delays to getting a view into your system performance.

Guaranteed Availability - Using modern techniques to ensure high availability, we'll guarantee a certain level of service and availability.

By using BTS as a transportation data processing service provider, you'll
not only save money, but you'll be able to instantly leverage any additional
statistical techniques we develop.

Case Study: Center-to-Center Communications

BTS has developed a sophisticated center-to-center communications system which allows for the robust collection of real-time traffic data from disparate geographical locations. The system performs intelligent buffering of data at the source to guard against the inevitable WAN fluctuations and outages. By using innovative techniques, the system doesn't need to delay the data at the source, instead it makes a local copy which, in the event of a failure, can be sent to the destination at a future time. This allows for the backfill of data which is lost due to transmission failures.

Case Study: Capacity Analysis

One fundamental problem of traffic engineering is capacity determination. The PeMS system provides a general purpose tool which allows users to explore the effects of capacity reducing events (incidents, lane closures). The tool uses actual measured freeway demand data as the input. It allows users to specify the start time of the event, the number of lanes and the discharge capacity. It then determines the subsequent queue which is built up, the length of the queue, and the amount of time to discharge the queue. All of this is shown graphically as well as in table format.

Case Study: BTS Accelerate

The Sample Data Processing Program Purchasing a transportation performance measurement system can be a daunting task with many choices and options. It also represents a significant investment in the expansion of analysis capabilities for your freeway system. Through the Sample Data Processing Program (SDPP), BTS gives customers a risk-free path to explore the performance characteristics of their freeway system.

The SDPP is designed to give customers a view into the features that PeMS provides for a small fee, part of which can be applied towards a purchase of further service from BTS. This program starts with customers providing BTS with a month of loop detector data and the appropriate configuration information. BTS takes this information and then grinds through the data, performing filtering, diagnostics, imputation, and aggregation, and then computing appropriate performance measures. The results are then presented to the customer via a series of web pages. The web pages allow for the quick and intuitive assessment of the performance of the system. In addition, it allows users to drill down into the data along different spatial and temporal dimensions. To find out how you can use the SDPP please contact BTS directly.
